Isotretinoin (Accutane)
Isotretinoin
Isotretinoin has never been approved in Japan, so dermatologists treat acne under insurance with adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, and antibiotics instead. Patients mid-course may bring their own supply under the 1-month rule and should carry documentation, because it is unfamiliar to Japanese customs and pharmacists. A few private clinics prescribe imported isotretinoin at the patient's expense.
