Privacy Policy

What personal data we collect (newsletter, JMP AI, visit counts), why, who processes it, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted. We never sell data or use it for advertising.

Japan Medical Press (“we”) is an editor-led publication. This policy explains what personal data we collect through this website and the services on it, and how we handle it. Last updated: September 13, 2026.

What we collect

Newsletter. When you subscribe, we store your email address, the language edition you chose, and the page you subscribed from. We send a confirmation email first and add you to the list only after you click the link (double opt-in). Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link.

JMP AI. When you use the assistant, the text of your question, whether you live in Japan, are traveling, or are here for treatment, and the prefecture you selected are sent to our server and, to generate an answer, to Google’s Gemini API. We store the text of your question for up to 90 days to improve the site, without your name or email address. We do not store the assistant’s answers. If you leave your email address in the assistant, it is stored as described under Newsletter.

Visit counts. We record, as daily totals on our own server, how many times each page is viewed, how often the website and phone buttons on hospital pages are tapped or clicked, and what kinds of sites visitors came from (for example, search engines or social media). We do not use cookies and do not store IP addresses or anything else that identifies you. We also record, in the same way, the words typed into the site’s search boxes (as they stand when you stop typing) and how often advertisements are shown and clicked. We use these totals in reports to listed medical institutions and to advertisers.

Server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) keeps standard request logs, including IP address and browser type, for security and abuse prevention.

Cookies and local storage. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. The site uses your browser’s local storage only to remember that you closed the alert bar. Embedded Google Maps on hospital pages load only when you scroll to them and are subject to Google’s privacy policy.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent personal data, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it with hospitals, clinics, or pharmaceutical companies.

Who processes data for us

Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, storage, email routing), Resend, Inc. (email delivery), Google LLC (Gemini API for the assistant; Google Maps). Data may be processed in Japan, the United States, and other countries where these providers operate.

How long we keep it

Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 90 days. Assistant question text: up to 90 days. Server logs: kept according to the provider’s retention policy, typically for less than 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see, correct, or delete the data we hold about you, or to withdraw consent. Email contact@japanmedicalpress.com. We answer within 14 days. If you are in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We will post changes on this page and update the date above.
