Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta)

Methylphenidate hydrochloride · コンサータ · リタリン

Methylphenidate is the main ADHD medicine available in Japan, as the extended-release Concerta and, for narcolepsy only, Ritalin. It is a controlled psychotropic: you may bring up to a 1-month supply within the official limit without a permit, and a Japanese prescription requires a doctor registered in the national ADHD distribution program.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Can I get Concerta refilled while staying in Japan?

Only from a psychiatrist registered in the ADHD drug program, usually after an assessment with your medical records. It is not a same-day refill, so bring enough for your stay (up to the 1-month limit) or apply for advance approval for more.
