Malaria prevention and treatment

Mefloquine (Lariam)

Mefloquine hydrochloride

Mefloquine (Mephaquin 275 mg) is the older malaria prophylaxis available in Japan, taken weekly. Because of its neuropsychiatric side effects most Japanese travel clinics now prefer Malarone or doxycycline; ask which is appropriate for your destination.
