Clarithromycin (Clarith, Klaricid) is the most prescribed macrolide in Japan, for respiratory infections, H. pylori eradication and, at low dose, chronic sinusitis. Because it was overused, macrolide resistance is high here, so doctors may choose another class for pneumonia.
