Cannabis / THC (medical marijuana)

Cannabis and THC are illegal in Japan under the Cannabis Control Act, and since the 2024 revision THC is regulated as a narcotic. Medical marijuana cards from other countries carry no weight here, and possession of even small amounts, including edibles and vape cartridges, can lead to arrest. Only THC-free CBD is permitted. The single approved cannabinoid medicine, Epidiolex (cannabidiol) for severe epilepsy, was approved in Japan in 2025 for hospital use.
