Melatonin

Melatonin, sold as a supplement in the US, is a prescription-only medicine in Japan and only for children. Adults cannot buy it here, but you may bring your own for personal use under the standard limit (up to 2 months for non-prescription products). The Japanese equivalent for jet lag and insomnia is ramelteon (Rozerem), a prescription melatonin-receptor agonist.
