Kakkonto (Kampo extract)
Kakkonto is the Kampo formula people in Japan take at the first sign of a cold and for a stiff neck, stiff shoulders, or headache. It combines seven herbs, including kudzu root, ephedra, and cinnamon. Kampo extracts are standardized granules covered by health insurance when prescribed, a system unique to Japan. It contains ephedra, so avoid it with heart disease or stimulant sensitivity.
